I can tell you that on my MacII's (both II & IIx) NetBSD 1.2 does not run
with a SuperMac Spectrum/8 Series III.  I'll have to try it again to reproduce
the error, but pulling the Spectrum out and putting in an Apple Hi Res card
lets that same Mac II run NetBSD just fine.
