I'm glad it's working for you. We probably should add something to the
FAQ.

Though if this is the problem, another way to fix it is to hack on the
modem strings & get the modem to assert DCD when carrier's there. That's
what pppd is looking for.

The new ftp is pretty cool, isn't it? I really like it.
