In my terminology: A system running 1.2.1 is a system winning the 1.2.1
distribution and a kernel distributed as part of 1.2.1 or a custom kernel
built from 1.2.1 sources.

In your case you seem to have a 1.2.1 system upgraded with a newer kernel
built from the current development sources on a given source (cf. Bill's
description of what -current is). Consequently your system is a mixture
of 1.2.1 and a newer -current kernel.

This is not a problem -- it mostly works as you note, but it is not a
pure 1.2.1 system.

Best regards (and no more nit-picking today) :-)
