I don't know about a root parttiion, but my SE/30 is happily running (for 
now) without a swap partition. of course, I dont' do anythign 
memory-intensive yet, so that's not too important. 

BTW:
Is there someplace/someone who has a unified walkthrough for setting up a 
BSD box? I've only gotten halfway with the FAQ, and I'm lookijng for 
things like named, routed, etc. setup, hot to add permissions (and paths) 
so I can use pico, etc.
