lyx is easy--copy system.lyxrc from lib/lyx to ~/.lyxrc (version .10.x), 
or to ~/.lyx/lyxrc (version .11.*).  THen edit this file (i'd use vi), 
and there is a line to uncomment to make delete go backwards.

ps--what version did you compile?

pps.  could someone who understands give him tar instructions? i 
*really* want that binary :)   He needs to tar up /usr/bin/lyx, 
/usr/lib/lyx/* (or is it /usr/share/lib/lyx?), and i think that's it.
