Running routed is never necessary as long as you have a default route to a
machine that is (or is running gated).  In fact running it is deprecated
because you become vulnerable to some kinds of denial-of-service and
masquerading attacks that otherwise might fail.

Signature failed Preliminary Design Review.
Feasibility of a new signature is currently being evaluated.
