LocalTalk is a really slow networking physical link for small
networks (i.e., four or five Macs and a printer or two, though it can
get bigger than this.) Since LocalTalk is built to scale to larger
sizes, it has a box with a cable attached to it and two ports. The
cable ends in a standard Mac DIN-8 serial cable, while the two ports
are either RJ-11 (Telephone/PhoneNet style) or DIN-3 (AppleTalk
style.) A printer cable is just straight cable with DIN-8 jacks on
either end.
Probably much more than you wanted to know, but oh well!
