I put up both version 1.1 and GENERIC#5 (run via a serial line) and more
recently 1.2 and ADBTEST#160 on my Classic II and the stability of the
kernel has never been an issue - the stability of the user, maybe, but
not the kernel - and that's on a test kernel!
I suspect user error here (on the grounds that if I can do it, anyone
can).
It's a pity that X doesn't work properly on a Classic II internal video
though ;-).

P.S. I did put up a web page (http://www.foakes.demon.co.uk/NetBSD.html)
on how I got a Classic II to run under NetBSD, but it's from a novice
point of view so probably is not of much interest to the wise and mighty
that live here. I wasn't going to mention it until I had John Ostowich's
permission as I use his graphics. but he never got back to me :'(
