The default is fine... "root", BTW, is a directory in / ... /root (the
superuser's homedir :-)  Hence the permission denied...

At that prompt, you can enter any valid shell ... /bin/sh, /bin/csh, etc.,
so long as the file system it's on is mounted.  The default is /bin/sh,
which is fine for most purposes.
