I recompiled the kernel last night from the latest sources and got a
broken system. It boots without noticeable problems but when I try to
start X it hangs. I was able to start X once out of four tries (and
hard reboots) but it was working extremely slow. Every keystroke
caused few seconds of disk activity (swap?) and I had to
reboot. Eventually I removed all suspicious programs from init files
(memory disk on /tmp, color video) and tried to boot with GENERIC
kernel build from the same sources. No luck either, (mono) X hanged.
I do not have external terminal so I could not try to kill everything.
In addition, the system does not want to reboot, it blanks the screen
and waits till I hit the reboot button few times.

The last working kernel I had was build from Feb.8 sources, so
something was changes last week. My system is IIcx without any special
hardware.
