The difference is that a GENERIC kernel (usually) has the ncrscsi driver
compiled into it while the GENERICSBC kernels have the sbc scsi driver.
The ncrscsi driver is the older (more or less original) driver, while the
sbc driver is the newer one that Scott Reynolds developed. Although the
sbc driver is a bit slower (is this still true Scott?), it does seem to
lead to less lockups due to disk activity.

Ahh! What kind of Quantum drive? If it's a 730 MB Lightning, (or a
Trailblazer, I think), then that's probably the problem. With only a
couple of exceptions, the drives which have been having trouble with the
ncrscsi driver have been Quantums. I don't know if anyone knows why this
is the case yet, though.

I'll add that the GENERICSBC3 kernel appears to be the way to go for a
P550. BTW, if Scott is reading this, what's the difference between the
three GENERICSBC kernels on ftp.netbsd.org?

Later.
