If I had to guess, I'd say that something in the Installer did minor
damage to your filesystem.  That's purely speculation, though, and
shouldn't be a reflection on the code or its maintainer.

As a preventative measure, I always run `fsck -fp' by hand on my disks
from single user mode after I write to them from the Installer.
