i also couldn't get sendmail to work until
1. i put it as an entry in etc/netstart as 'on' so it would come up with
boot
2. i made sure the name localhost.my.com or whatever the default in
sendmail.cf was set to, was reset to my correct server address as
specified in /etc/localhost and others...

it looks like this:

Cwmacaroni.cs.wits.ac.za macaroni
