This one's been in the FAQ for quite a while, since January, anyway.  I 
suppose that it's a little buried, but it is currently Q&A # 6.12

The command is:

cd /dev; ./MAKEDEV pty0

for an additional 12 pty's.  This is the maximum number under the GENERIC 
kernel, btw.
