I use an SE/30 (slower machine than a IIci) as a SOCKS firewall
from 28.8 ppp to ethernet, and a machine behind the firewall sees
about the same transfer rates it would see if it was direct-connected
to the modem. The firewall machine is usually pretty much idle.
