Correct.  They're for if you want to rebuild the system, make changes,
etc.

A lot of stuff compiles trivially.  I just built ircII for the first
time last night and it was basically './easyinst ; make'.  Don't know
about screen--it might want ncurses.  I'm running pine & pico--I think
there was a small patch for that--the next version should run "out of
the box" (apparently, they're sitting on it until it's "bug-free").
