I just wanted to report success on my IIsi with the netbsd.scsi kernel
that Allen Briggs uploaded to puma yesterday. If you recall, the new
kernels made available a week or so ago on eskimo caused by system to
simply lock at "Changing root device to sd1a." with the drive's
read/write light on. With the newest kernel, I can boot just fine.
And my system seems a lot more stable than it was with the kernel from
the November 27 distribution. Thanks, Allen!

Now, on with the questions...

1) How in the world are these kernels being numbered? The three I've had
in the last couple days were:
     NetBSD 1.1A (WORMHOLE) #44: Thu Jan 18 00:18:18 PST 1996 (from eskimo)
     NetBSD 1.1A (GENERIC) #51: Thu Jan 18 05:48:48 PST 1996 (from eskimo)
     NetBSD 1.1A (GENERIC) #33: Wed Jan 24 04:15:15 EST 1996 (from puma)
Not important, I guess. Just curious.

2) I said before that the latest kernel boots fine on my IIsi. It does.
But there's one error message displayed that doesn't seem to affect
anything, but... "savecore: can't find device 0/0". What is device
0/0 and why can't it find it?

3) A brand-spankin'-newbie question.. I have no idea how to get my
machine on the network. I have a SLIP account, but don't know how to
even dial the modem to get there. I have yet to find a FAQ that
explains it at my newbie level, so feel free to point me to one.
Anyway, when I boot, there seem to be some network-related errors
that may or may not be significant. I don't know what they mean, or
why they occur, so if you could explain them, I'd appreciate it.
This is what I see when I boot:
     setting tty flags
     starting network
writing to routing socket: File exists
     starting rpc daemons: portmap.
starting system logger, time daemontimed: no network usable
     .
     Checking for core dump...
     savecore: can't find device 0/0
     Jan 25 01:05:31 localhost savecore: can't find device 0/0
     checking quotas: done.
(and some other apparantly error-free stuff)
Can you tell what I'm doing wrong just from that? Any help whatsoever
   would be appreciated.

Thanks muchly,
     Tim
