Look in the monitors control panel.  See how many colors you can 
display.  If it's 256 colors, 8 bit.  If it's Thousands, 16 bit.  If it's 
millions of colors, 24 bit.  Note that a 24 bit card can display in 
thousands or 256 color mode, but an 8 bit card can't display over 256.
