Well, I've found the cause of my file system corruption.  That's the good 
news.  The bad news is that it's either the SCSI driver or fsck itself 
(or in the formatting software).  Whenever I fsck the root & usr 
partition at first startup, it says that the free block count is wrong in 
the superblock.  It asks if I want to salvage it.  I press Y to fix the 
problem.  It says that since changes have been made to the filesystem, I 
need to reboot.  I type reboot.  The computer reboots.  Upon entering the 
booter and asking the system to boot, it tells me that the Magic Number 
is wrong, and that my root & usr partition is not a valid UFS partition 
and it can't open the kernel.

Any suggestions?  Would upgrading from the Alpha to the release version 
fix this or make it worse (I've heard some users complaining about the 
new SCSI driver in the release version)?

I'm still using Wittkoski Kernel 9.26, because I don't have a working 
download of 11.26 yet.
