It does work. I do this to allow my IIcx to run without a monitor (a bit
of a pain when something goes wrong and you need to use the console -
but when you're short a monitor...)
You don't have to buy an adaptor - it's really easy to make one. It's
simply a matter of shorting two pins of a DB-15 plug together. There
are several pages in Apples' tech info library which describe the
scheme the mac uses to detect what sort pf monitor is connected. See:
http://cgi.info.apple.com/cgi-bin/read.wais.doc.pl?/wais/TIL/Macintosh!Hardware/Monitor!Sense!Codes!Defined
For example, to fake an Apple 13" monitor, connect sense line 0 (pin 4)
to ground (pin 11).
