Well, I just ftp'd a copy of Steve Allen's newest generic kernel off of 
   ftp.eskimo.com and was delighted to find that it appears to work just 
   fine on my IIci with the following configuration:

Well, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on all IIci's.  The one I
have, for instance, still vm_faults in the same place it has before,
but thanks anyway to anyone who has been working on the problem.
