I get nothing but clicks on my IIvx, just to add another data point...

Adam, try turning up the volume--the click is pretty quiet. And yes,
the computer can't tell the difference between the external and
internal speakers--the ASC just sends the signal out whichever
wire the little switch in the headphone port says to.
