I think there is confusion - we switchted to ELF back then, but still
supported creating a.out binaries with the in-tree toolchains.

The removal of creating a.out support happened 2010-07-06 (but it was
likely non functional at that point). Also this was mostly for our
build system (make files and macros) and thinks like the old ld.aout_so.

Not sure about the plain gcc/binutils stuff - if it is still there, we
certainly do not exercise it.
