For a little while after the switch to 2.7.2, there was a problem where,
with -fpic, gcc's output would choke the assembler with
/usr/tmp/cca23700.s:176: Error: operands mismatch -- statement `jbsr _CharWidth,a1' ignored

or the equivalent.

I'm now getting this from gcc 2.7.2, built --with-gas, on SunOS, and would
like a pointer to the fix.
