The difference between 5,2 and 6.* is the switch from dhclient to
dhcpcd as the DHCP client code.

My guess would be that your CD doesn't have the correct executable
scripts for dhcpcd to run, as the disgnostics you gave show dhcpcd
obtaining all the correct values, but nothing actually being
configured.

That would usually indicate that the script that converts dhcpcd's
values to kernel configuration was missing, or non-executable, or failed
for some other reason.

ps: and no, the boot cds don't correctly support downgrading I don't think,
though they would do much of what would be required.  Just recovering from
a backup is likely to be easier though.
