I deleted 70k from the install kernel yesterday - which made it fit
onto 2 floppies with space to spare.

I'de leave any further surgery until the INSTALL_ACPI kernel and
an appropriate (larger) ramdisk has been generated.
Then it will be easier to keep a 2.8M floppy for 'old' (ie non-acpi) systems.
