Maybe this is a FAQ or an RTFM ...

I have banged my head against the wall all day, trying to RE-install
NetBSD onto an old (2000/2001?) Dell PowerEdge 1550 (single CPU) that
DID run it previously, but either something has chenged, or I have
forgotten the magic incantation from last time (he wrote, cursing his
laziness for not making notes at the time ... >:-).

It has an amr RAID controller. Two identical drives are configured for
RAID-1 mirroring.

The following happens identically for both -current (200603011) and
NetBSD-3 branch (20060313) picked up from NetBSD-daily.

Installation works flawlessly. Everything is just fine, untill I
reboot from the new "real" kernel on the RAID system.

The kernel loads fine, and probes the devices, finding ld0 without a
hickup, and all is well ... UNTIL it's about to start init. The last
trace is

cd0: ... ... (all fine)
     <HANG>

... and that's where it's supposed to say

root on ...
swap on ...

... but it doesn't. I just hangs hard (i.e. needs power cycle (it has
no reset button AFAIK)).

The astounding thing is that the installation kernel runs just fine.

I'm trying to prod my (agreed: useless) memory to try to dig out any
traces from my previous (sucessful!) installation (3.99.11), but so
far I fail miserably (as expected ;-).

Is it that I have to compile a kernel with pccons in stead of wscons?
If so, why? (I seem to remember some hint about kbd not being "proper"
ISA, but PCI, but my memory believes that it was related to some other
box).

Any other hints?

Any BIOS settings that I have missed?

(And yes, /dev/console is there! Checked from shell util in sysinst.)

Help! :-)

				Cheers,
				  /Liman
