Yes, on a VMware test system.
Using /usr/mdec/mbr built from August 18 sources works, however.

Please log a PR about this.  (I haven't done that yet because I did not
have a chance to test if this failed on a "real" system, just a VMware
emulation.  Your mail confirms that it doesn't work on real systems).
