  ifconfig wi0 nwid MYSSID

nwid is a historical term from pre-802.11 wavelan cards, the term from
the 802.11 standard is SSID (service set id, I think).  I forgot to
mention before that ad-hoc demo mode is very much like the pre-802.11
equipment.

Note that in IBSS mode a station will transmit beacon frames all the
time, as well as acks when receiving packets.
