Mine is a dell inspiron 7500 and the air is taken from the side and pushed out the
back. So having the laptop lid closed while doing longer compiles would be great.
So there is no way to tell the APMD not to run or even egknowledge the standy or
suspends events. It would seem to me that there would be a way to tell it to do 
nothing. There are kernel options for everything else like "no power off"
and "no standy" why is there no "no suspend"? Just wondering

This is often a very bad idea -- many laptops have exhaust blower fans,
and exhaust vents, on the sides, but draw _fresh_ air for cooling through
the keyboard (or the reverse).  If you leave them running with the lid
shut, well, the potential consequences are obvious...
