What does xvinfo have to say?
xdpyinfo says this for my TNT2 M64:
number of extensions: 29
    BIG-REQUESTS
    DOUBLE-BUFFER
    DPMS
    Extended-Visual-Information
    FontCache
    GLX
    LBX
    MIT-SCREEN-SAVER
    MIT-SHM
    MIT-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD
    RANDR
    RENDER
    SECURITY
    SGI-GLX
    SHAPE
    SYNC
    TOG-CUP
    X-Resource
    X3D-PEX
    XC-APPGROUP
    XC-MISC
    XFree86-Bigfont
    XFree86-DGA
    XFree86-Misc
    XFree86-VidModeExtension
    XIE
    XInputExtension
    XKEYBOARD
    XVideo

yet xvinfo says this:
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
 no adaptors present

and anything trying to use xvideo or GLX fails.
It is simply not supported by anything but the true nvidia driver for older
cards, it seems, and nvidia is too tight-mouthed to let us support it.
