Hello,

Thank you very much, changing mouse protocol to "wsmouse" *did* work. Even 
the mouse-wheel worked immediately, *plus* the screen does not turn dark 
after I exit XFree. 
So, well, thank you very much, I still have a long way to go (and I am such a 
lazy person...), but this made me feel better. First obstacle overcome... =)
