I don't know about the Altair, but the old TRS-80 that I used to use,
20 odd years ago (yes, they have been odd) emitted a lot of noise on
radio frequences.  I remember using an AM radio for those sound-effects
with some space games.  (^&

I don't remember if I had to tune it at all to get the noise, but I
don't think that it had much range, so you had to keep the radio close
by the computer.

(Hm...I wonder if therein lies a cheap wireless communications strategy?
*grin*  It would, of course, be half-duplex...)
