Yes. newbtconf is for manually selecting different boot configs.
What I (and most probably many others) want is to insert/remove
different devices at will and anytime and configure it and/or
run scripts at these events.

Yes, thats right. It's limited to network interfaces (not devices)
when addresses are added or deleted from them. So inserting an
ethernet pccard is out of scope. Every time I have to type the same
commands (as root). Having an automatic system would eliminate
that, configure that device once and you're done.
