What I do on my IBM Thinkpad T21 is 

/usr/sbin/irdaattach -f tty01 && echo irdaattach
/usr/pkg/bin/irs -Y -c -y /dev/ptyqf -d /dev/irframe0 && echo irs

No idea about the DMA stuff or the other ports.
