what new notebook does really work under NetBSD?

my friend it buying and would like to take something that work

quick test on SiS M650 based machine showed that almost nothing works
including disk (with bootdisk from releng.netbsd.org this month's
-current)

machine without lot of built-in periferals is preferred, especially
winmodems.

what should we try next? ibm, toshiba, others?
