I use 20M or larger. With soft updates it makes a real difference when  working
on trees with lots of files. It also makes a difference for a busy mail server.

But with 20M, the I/O queue can become large enouth to require more than a
seconds to drain, so under some workload (e.g. writing a mailbox much
larger than 20M) it has some annoying behavior
