It's likely that your problem was caused by a bug in the keyboard driver
which I fixed a couple of months ago. The fix has been applied to
the 1.5 branch, so if 1.5.2 didn't work, 1.5.3 will be much more likely
to work on your system.

Booting a CD works, since the installation kernels all use pccons,
not wscons, and pccons didn't have the bug.
