For the application you mentioned I would go with either a Asus A7A266, Abit
Kg7 or the FIC AD11. All of these support the AMD Duron, Thunderbird and XP
CPUs. The Asus board supposrts both PC133 SDRAM and the PC2100 DDR while
the FIC and Abit just support PC2100 DDR. From what I have heard, and this
may be wrong, the DDR RAM may or may not not show an appreciable advantage
for what it looks like you will be using it for. As for the CPU, with the
AMD you get more bang for the buck so I would recommend the Thunderbird or
XP. If money is a problem, the newer (and faster) Durons would do in a
pinch. Hope this helps.
Michael

I've got two ATX pc's I need to give new MBs, and I was wondering if folks
could give me some suggestions as to what to get.

The main application they need to run (which is why this is off-topic :-)
is Everquest. :-) Next week, EQ is getting upgraded to a version that
needs 256 -> 512 MB ram, DirectX 8, and a video card w/ hardware T&L. The
two machines which run EQ won't handle that, so I need to do some
updating.

Unfortunatly I don't follow what's good and what's not, so I'd appreciate
some advice from folks as to what to get and what to avoid. I'm looking at
getting a new MB, CPU, and memory.

Thoughts?

Take care,

Bill
