FWIW, the 4.1.0 Rendition XFree86 driver was crashing on me as well,
I had to downgrade the driver to 4.0.something version I was 
using before, i.e. I replaced /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/rendition_drv.o
with 4.0* version. Maybe something like that would help you as well
as interim "solution".
