Some hardware on your board (like the Adaptec chip) is not worth
supporting. For one, you can't do a firmware upgrade on it.
Just buy an Adaptec PCI board.

I bought an AHA-2940UW 4yrs  ago for $119. I thought the firm made
a mistake. Turns out it had firmware ver. 1.19.x on it. When I 
upgraded it to v. 2.4.x it ran about 2x as fast.

This is not possible with an Adaptec chip on the motherboard...
