My desktop machine does the same - it works OK, but the IDE light stays on
all the time.  It seems to have the same IDE controller:

pciide0 at pci0 dev 7 function 1: Intel 82371AB IDE controller (PIIX4) (rev. 0x01)

wd0 at pciide0 channel 0 drive 0: <WDC AC11000H>
wd0: drive supports 16-sector pio transfers, lba addressing
