Hello,

Has anyone else had better luck at getting information from Yamaha about
their YMF744 DS-1S chip? This is the chip used in the Sony VAIO PCG-N505VX
SuperSlim notebook (and it is used in other computers too...).

Greetings:
Thank you for visiting our web site.

Yamaha sells audio integrated circuits to companies that manufacture Personal Computers or PC peripherals. We do not sell these products directly to consumers and are therefore not staffed to be able to provide support to end users of our customer's products. We will however as a COURTESY respond to your inquiry as best we can.

Driver(s) for NOTEBOOKS / LAPTOPS are highly specialized and our generic driver(s) may not work with your PC
system. We therefore recommend that you contact the manufacturer of your PC system prior to downloading our generic driver. You can otherwise download the driver from our web site http://www.yamaha.com and link to PC_Audio / Support / Download / Download Generic Driver.

Note that the driver(s) MAY NOT BE APPROVED by the manufacturer of your sound card or PC system, and that they MAY NOT WORK with your specific sound card or PC system configuration. Use of these (driver(s) should be done at the risk of the users and we cannot be held responsible for anything caused by using them.

Dear Yamaha,

My Sony VAIO notebook came with a Yamaha YMF744 DS-1S chip in it but
unfortunately, this chip is not supported by the NetBSD operating
system (http://www.netbsd.org) that I use on the machine.

Do you have any information available about this chip for those that
are interested in creating a driver for the chip? If so, would you
be so kind as to let me know what is available, and what I need to
do to be able to access it.

Sincerely,

Brian Stark
