Hmm hadn't noticed.  I setup NIS on my 1.4.2 server a few weeks ago, 
but I set INSECURE=no so that the passwd map contains only '*' for passwds. 
Since I want to export username/uid etc but am happy to force people to
use ssh or other secure login methods.
