I was unable to find any means of disabling PnP in the dos setup utility,
and AOPEN seems to have no ready support channel to help.  I agree that if
I could disable PnP it would probably be running by now ...

Regarding the addressing discrepancy, I believe that buried in the sound
card config files on my FreeBSD 3.2 box was a comment about CS423* chips
having this problem, but they weren't dealing with PnP front ends, and the
fix was to pass boot config options with the 'boot -c' command.
