Still trying to get a reasonable SCSI setup on this Gateway 2000 P5-60.

Based on the responses from my previous inquiry about data corruption pro=
blems
using an AHA-1542A (and a borrowed 1540CF), I decided that the problem wa=
s
either an incompatability with bus-mastering DMA ISA cards or, at least, =
a
chipset configuration issue which was not accessible from my BIOS.

So, I went out and bought a Tekram DC-310 PCI SCSI adapter. This is an NC=
R/LSI
53C810A-based host adapter. Unfortunately, it is failing the cache test i=
n the
probe.

Here is the kernel output at boot:

If I go into the BIOS setup and turn off the system cache, I get a slight=
ly
different error:

ncr0 at pci0 dev 14 function 0: ncr 53c810a fast10 scsi
ncr0: interrupting at irq 9
ncr0: minsync=3D25, maxsync=3D206, maxoffs=3D8, 16 dwords burst, normal d=
ma fifo
ncr0: single-ended, open drain IRQ driver
CACHE TEST FAILED: reg dstat-sstat2 readback ffffffff.
CACHE INCORRECTLY CONFIGURED.

This is a Gateway 2000 P5-60 (Intel "Batman's Revenge" motherboard). AMI =
BIOS
with no NCR BIOS support.

So, my questions:

1) Anybody ever seen these problems before?

2) Is this a chipset or an adapter problem?

3) Any advice how to fix it? Do I need to run some Symbios setup utility?

Thanks in advance...
