You have to set GLX_CHIPSET to tnt (it defaults to mga for Matrix G200
and G400).  Did you do that?

The version that's in the pkgsrc is a bit buggy (fog and smoke look
particularly nasty).  I haven't fooled with it in a while, but I had
the package half-updated to a newer version (Oct 10th version instead of
August 4th).  It's better for some things, but seems much slower.
