I had the same problems with 1.4.1. (See the mailing list archive) 
Get the newest release kernel, 
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-release/tar_files/src/sys.tar.gz
recompile your kernel and the problem will be gone.
