Nope.  Here's what I've found out:  It hangs somewhere in
pcmcia_function_disable at the end of ne_pcmcia_attach.  One thing I
noticed:  The "activate" function, unlike the ones for most PCMCIA devices,
isn't in this directory, presumably because it's part of the ne2000 generic
driver.

I'm not really a kernel person, so I'm just adding debugging printfs to track
the code, rebuilding, running, and noticing where I stop getting messages.
Trivial, but not stunningly effective.

I have an old kernel, so if I need to, I can connect to the network.  My
plan is to, if at all possible, build a release and a bootable CD from this
Real Soon.  ;-)
