It is a little worse than this.  I have two 'FA310TX REV-D1' cards
that have a "NETGEAR NGMC169B" chipset.  It also appears to have a
extern PHY that is a 'LEVEL ONE 9748', presumably the LXT-970 that
we have support for.

So it looks like NetGear has at least three families of chips, the
Digital, the NGMC169B, and the LC82C169C.  I'm guessing that the latter
two are similar, but I have no idea.

Jason Thorpe mentioned the VIA Rhine based chips the last time this
question came up.  The 3Com 3c905B-TX should work fine with 1.4 also.
